T172 Working with our environment: technology for a sustainable future

This taster contains:

  • an activity based on one of the course themes
  • an extract from the course material
  • a sample question from a student assignment
  • some advice on preparing for T172

Do remember that this is only a tiny sample of a large course.

T172 has been designed for anyone who is concerned about their impacts on the environment and is interested in learning how to shape a more sustainable future for both industrialised and developing countries. It is an ideal foundation for the Environmental Studies degree and many higher level Technology courses, as well as some courses in Science, Social Science and Business Studies. The OU Course and Qualifications >> site has a detailed course description.

The teaching material in T172 consists of:

  • texts
  • audio and video cassettes
  • a set book 'The Sciences Good Study Guide'
  • optional computing software
  • There are three files - Energy, Resources, and Human and Ecosystem Health - which provide learning and resource material that is used throughout the course.

There are five tutor-marked assignments (TMA's) and an End of Course Assessment which takes the form of an extended assignment using the materials of the course.

You will also have a tutor who will help you with the course material, mark and comment on your written work, and whom you can ask for advice and guidance. We also offer Regional group tutorials or day-schools that you are encouraged, but not obliged, to attend.
