International Development |
This subject area draws together a variety of innovative cross-faculty
courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in international
development. Courses combine material on developing countries with cases
and analysis from a global perspective, including case studies from the
UK and other parts of Europe. Our second-level undergraduate course is
a core course in the BA or BSc (Hons) International Studies degree as
well as an optional course in the BSc (Hons) Technology. Our postgraduate
courses in Development Management emphasize the need to enhance practical
skills as well as intellectual understanding. The issues, frameworks and
skills are widely applicable to many situations globally. The courses
will be particularly attractive to professionals working in development
in public and private sectors, as well as in non-governmental organizations,
who want to gain a qualification or enhance their skills. They will also
appeal to those wishing to combine their study of development management
with the specific areas of organizational management, environment and
social policy. Equally, they will complement study in other OU programmes,
for example the MSc in Environmental Decision Making or the MA in Social
Science.
